Property taxes are due on February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. The Township does permit a 10-day grace period. If payments are made after the grace period interest will be charged as of the due date. Please be advised that the State of New Jersey does not allow the Tax Collector to acknowledge postmarks, therefore taxes must be received in the office on or before the 10th. However, if the 10th falls on a weekend or legal holiday you have until the next business day to make your payment. Payments may be made by cash, check, money order, Visa or MasterCard. The use of ACH payments will be available in the very near future. Receipts are given out at the time of payment only. To receive a receipt, please include the entire bill with a self addressed stamped envelope.
Tax bills are mailed out once a year, in late June or early July. Property taxes are billed in Lower Township on a calendar year, January 1st to December 31st. The first quarter covers January through March, the second quarter covers April through June, the third quarter covers July through September and the fourth quarter covers October through December. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying taxes or the interest due on delinquent taxes.
After November 10th, all unpaid taxes, interest and other municipal charges for the current year are subject to tax sale. |
